Career highlights past and present

A dentist in New York with over 15 years of clinical and executive-level experience, Leon D. James, DDS, MBA, earned his dental degree from the Howard University College of Dentistry. Alongside his studies, he assisted communities in need as a member of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), through which he provided dental services in Hartford, Connecticut. He went on to pursue training in dental sedation and implantology, which formed the foundation for his professional focus on dental sleep apnea, implants, and temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

Dr. James launched his dental career as a Dental Director at Charter Oak Community Health Center in 2008, prior to which he completed a general dentistry residency at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center. Following his tenure at Charter Oak Community Health Center, he joined Carrollton Dental Center. He managed staff and handled daily operations for 10 dental and medical facilities through the center. His responsibilities ranged from developing community outreach programs to assessing business proposals to optimize profitability, as well as establishing public-health program policies, strategies, standards, and goals.

Over the years, Dr. James has also developed acumen in clinical areas such as periodontal surgery, cosmetic dentistry, straight-wire orthodontics, and molar root canal therapy. He conducted research on the radiographic analysis of dental caries management and the cutting efficiency of dental drills through the University of California, San Francisco in 2004 and later created a community-based platform that emphasizes customer service and patient care.

Currently, Dr. James serves as a dentist at Wappingers Falls Dental Arts and Harriman Family Dentistry in New York. Passionate about treating patients with craniofacial pain, dental sleep apnea, and TMD, he focuses his dental services on these and related areas. Furthermore, he leverages a patient-first approach to treat people with dental phobias and anxieties.
